Culpepper leads Mountain Lions to late win over Florida

In his UFL debut, Sacramento quarterback Daunte Culpepper had a rough day, and his team lost on the road to the Hartford Colonials.

In the home debut of Culpepper’s Mountain Lions, before a crowd that the UFL estimated at 20,000, the former NFL star put on a show, with the former Detroit Lion leading the Mountain Lions to a come-from-behind win over the Florida Tuskers.

Culpepper threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to receiver Rod Windsor with 31 seconds remaining to deliver the 24-20 victory. For the game, Culpepper completed 26 of 42 passes for 374 yards and three touchdowns.

“Daunte was a warrior right to the end and the guys really stayed together,” Sacramento coach Dennis Green said. “Despite our discouragement from last week there was never any doubt that the guys would stay together and put forth that kind of game.”

The Mountain Lions erased a 17-7 deficit through three quarters, but the Tusker took a late 20-17 lead on a Nick Novak field goal.

Through two weeks of action, the Omaha Nighthawks are 1-0. Three teams (Sacramento, Florida, Hartford) are 1-1. The defending champs from Las Vegas are 0-1.
