The Miami Dolphins have finally gotten around to signing the first of their draft picks.
The team announced that wide receiver B.J. Cunningham, selected in the sixth round out of Michigan State, has agreed to terms on a contract. It’s the standard four-year deal for all players drafted after the first round.
Cunningham caught 218 passes for 3,086 yards during his career with the Spartans, leaving him as Michigan State’s all-time leader in both categories. His productivity didn’t translate to a higher spot in the draft because he didn’t flash elite speed in games or during workouts after the season. The Dolphins’ receiving corps isn’t all that stacked, however, and Cunningham could carve out a place for himself as an underneath receiver with a strong training camp.
Miami also drafted wide receiver Rishard Matthews in the seventh round last month. He is one of the eight Dolphins draft picks still waiting for their contracts.
