The Packers have turned to Don Barclay as a replacement for injured offensive linemen in each of the last two seasons, but they may need to find another option in 2014.
Barclay was carted off the field at practice on Tuesday after he injured his knee while pass blocking. Packers coach Mike McCarthy didn’t have an update about Barclay’s diagnosis after practice, but Vic Ketchman of the team’s website heard “obvious concern” when the coach discussed Barclay’s injury.
“Don Barclay suffered a knee injury. It was in a blitz drill. He got himself in a bad position. He’s being evaluated. We’ll know more probably tonight. We’ll wait to see what we’re dealing with. They don’t come any better than him. I just hope it’s not serious,” McCarthy said.
Barclay started 15 games in the regular season and playoffs at right tackle last year after Bryan Bulaga was lost for the season. He was slated to be the team’s sixth lineman now that Bulaga has returned to health, a role that could fall to former first-round pick Derek Sherrod if tests reveal a serious injury for Barclay.
