Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh prefaced his post-game press conference by asking that the questions focus only on the loss to the Cowboys, and not on his future. But Suh’s emotional, tearful demeanor revealed that he understands that his future will entail a team other than the Lions.
Suh will become a free agent in March. The Lions won’t use the franchise tag, since doing so would cost more than $26 million in guaranteed 2015 salary. Unless the Lions offer Suh more than anyone else does on the open market or Suh decides to take less to stay in Detroit, he’ll be leaving.
Sure, some of the emotion likely came from a close loss in his second career playoff game. But Suh’s tears, which ultimately culminated in Suh leaving the podium mid-question, primarily flowed from the reality that he’ll likely never wear a Lions uniform again.
