Former NFL player Esera Tuaolo, whose name was in headlines across the country after he publicly identified himself as gay in 2002, says he’s sad and embarrassed by having his name in headlines for a domestic assault arrest last week.
“I’m very embarrassed this happened,” Tuaolo told the Minneapolis Star Tribune writer known as C.J. “It saddens me to jump online and see how people are talking about my kids. My head is just spinning.”
C.J. writes that she and Tuaolo are friends, and although she didn’t identify the victim in the case, she said it is not Tuaolo’s ex-partner, with whom he is raising two children.
“It’s blown way out of proportion,” Tuaolo said. “And that’s all I can say. . . . I still love him, he still loves me.”
