Everette Brown is heading to Detroit.
Brown, a free agent defensive end who played for the Chargers last year, has signed a one-year deal with the Lions, Adam Caplan of Sirius/XM reports.
The 24-year-old Brown is a talented player but has been something of a disappointment since he was taken by the Panthers with the 43rd overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft. He totaled six sacks in two seasons with the Panthers, then was released after training camp in 2011. He caught on with the Chargers but played in only three games last year.
If the Lions can get do what the Panthers and Chargers didn’t and get Brown to play up to his potential, they’ve just added a promising young player at a position where they were already strong. If they can’t get Brown to play up to his potential, they’ll likely be the third team to release him.
