North Greenville University has never had one of its players make it into an NFL regular season game, but that could change the next time that the Falcons take the field.

Atlanta promoted wide receiver Freddie Martino from the practice squad to the 53-man roster on Tuesday, putting him in position to be the first product of the South Carolina school to break into the big leagues.

Martino was signed as an undrafted free agent during the offseason and has been on the practice squad since the start of the regular season. He takes the place of wide receiver Courtney Roby, who was released after making one catch in four games so far this season.

Roby mostly saw time on special teams, even with Harry Douglas sidelined the last couple of weeks by a foot injury. Martino’s likeliest route to playing time is also likely to come on special teams.
