Garrard, Carpenter named AFC players of the week

Jaguars quarterback David Garrard and Dolphins kicker Dan Carpenter have been honored for their big games Sunday with AFC player of the week awards.

Garrard was named offensive player of the week after he threw for a career-high four touchdowns and completed 17 of 21 passes for 260 yards in a win over the Cowboys. Garrard’s passer rating was 157.8, the highest in the NFL this season and just short of a perfect rating of 158.3.

Carpenter was named the AFC special teams player of the week after going 5-for-5 on field goals, including a career long 54-yarder, in a win over the Bengals. It was his second special teams player of the week honor in the last three weeks.

As we previously noted, Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney has been named the AFC defensive player of the week.
