Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty is ready for his 2012 debut.

Canty was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list on Saturday after missing the first six weeks of the season with a knee injury, and the New York Daily News reports that Canty is expected to play against the Redskins on Sunday.

Although Canty expressed some doubts this week about his ability to play on Sunday, Giants coach Tom Coughlin said he thought the combination of Canty and Linval Joseph would give the Giants an excellent pair of defensive tackles to put up against Robert Griffin III and Co.

“He gives us an outstanding veteran player inside to go along with Linval,” Coughlin said. “He’s tall, he’s rangy, he gets his hands up in the air and bats balls down. He is a good pass rusher. He’s anxious to play.”

The Giants have also announced that they placed running back Da’Rel Scott on season-ending injured reserve with a knee injury.
