As bad as being arrested three times in a week might be for former Lions wide receiver Titus Young, it was very nearly worse.

According to KTLA (via the Detroit Free Press), the owner of the home Young allegedly broke into Friday was loading a gun and prepared to use it.

“I was by the door and, all of a sudden, the door opened up,” Bill Palttos told KTLA. “I just yelled at him, ‘You better get the hell out of my house.’”

Palttos said when he heard footsteps inside his house, he reached under his bed for an unloaded rifle, and began to load it when the door to his bedroom was opened.

Young’s still behind bars on felony charges of burglary and assault on a peace officer, and a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest.

“I feel sorry for him, and I’m sure glad that he left and I didn’t have to find out what’s going to happen if he came in,” Palttos told the television station, “because I’m afraid I would have shot him.”

That close call to a violent end was a frightening punctuation to a disturbing week for Young.

He was also arrested twice on May 5, once for suspicion of DUI, then again for attempted burglary when he tried to break into the impound yard to reclaim his car.

At this point, any consideration of Young’s football career should be secondary, and the reality that his issues transcend his ability to catch footballs should be evident.
