Hue Jackson: If A.J. Green is out, we’ll put somebody else in there and go

The Bengals are doing some finger crossing right now about wide receiver A.J. Green, who had to leave Wednesday’s practice after aggravating the toe ligament injury that has been bothering him for most of the season.

After having an MRI to determine the severity of the aggravation, Geoff Hobson of the team’s website reports that Green will next consult with Dr. James Amis in Cincinnati about next steps that could include continuing to play through the injury or missing a week or more while trying to get things healed.

Green’s absence would be a major problem under the best of circumstances, but the Bengals are also missing wide receiver Marvin Jones and tight end Tyler Eifert right now. That situation would make many people worry about a lack of weapons, but offensive coordinator Hue Jackson is not part of that group.

“Never out of weapons. We’ll put somebody else up in there and let’s go,” Jackson said.

Jackson said rookie James Wright “showed that it’s not too big for him” when he got some snaps on offense against the Patriots, which could make him part of the plan should the Bengals be forced to live life without Green in the coming weeks.
