Nearly two weeks ago, reports emerged that receiver Troy Williamson, one of the fast-running, can’t-miss prospects from the 2005 draft whom no one in Minnesota realized can’t catch, had agreed to terms with the Jaguars on a one-year deal.
Finally, the Jaguars have announced that a deal is done.
So what took so long?
Possible explanation include:
1. Williamson kept dropping the pen.
2. When his agent handed Williamson the contract, it bounced off his head.
3. Williamson was hoping for the emergence of a new pro football league that determines the reception of a pass based on the rules of Tudor Electric Football.
Regardless of the reason, Williamson is a prime example of the basis for our reluctance to make any connection between how fast a guy runs in a straight line and whether he can play football at the highest level of the sport.
