Titans owner Bud Adams made it clear that he doesn’t want to choose between coach Jeff Fisher and Vince Young. He told the two men to get along.
Before we move on from the Young fiasco, it’s worth pointing out that the message certainly hasn’t got through to Fisher yet. Given the chance to soften some of his initial comments following Young’s mental meltdown, Fisher instead stepped up his stance.
1. Fisher repeated his point that Young would have lost his starting job, regardless of injury. “Had there not been an injury, still his actions after the game he wouldn’t be the starter, OK?’' Fisher said Monday. “But we have an injury that is going to require surgery, so we’ve moved on.’'
2. Fisher felt Young had no reason to be upset about not re-entering the game after hurting his thumb.
“He may have told other people, but he didn’t tell the head coach, the offensive coordinator or the quarterbacks coach. So as far as I’m concerned he didn’t tell anybody,’' Fisher said.
3. Fisher subtly blamed Young for not getting Randy Moss the ball.
Adams says the dustup is not anything “real serious.” Fisher clearly disagrees. It’s hard to see a middle ground here. Asked if Young would earn his big salary next year, Adams didn’t hesitate.
“Oh, God yeah,” Adams told Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. “He is under contract. I wouldn’t want to let him go . . . we are going to pay him a lot of money.’'
