Joe Burrow: Wrist injury is “completely different thing” than why I wore wrap on plane

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow will miss the rest of the season with a right wrist injury and he told reporters on Friday that he felt a pop on his final throw before leaving Thursday night’s game against the Ravens.

Burrow tried throwing on the sideline after that play, but couldn’t do it and he was ruled out a short time later. One of the questions that popped up after Burrow left the game was whether the injury was related to the wrap that was spotted on Burrow’s hand as he got off the team’s plane in Baltimore on Wednesday.

The Bengals deleted the video showing Burrow’s hand and the league said it will be investigating why Burrow was not on the injury report, but Burrow said on Friday that there was no connection between the wrap and the season-ending injury.

“This is a completely different thing,” Burrow said, via Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “It’s not uncommon for guys to wear compression sleeves on planes. When you go to altitude, things can swell up.”

Burrow is now headed for surgery and said he does not have a firm timetable for when he’ll be able to resume football work. That leaves Jake Browning as the quarterback in Cincinnati for the rest of this year and it makes another trip to the playoffs less likely for the back-to-back division champs.
