Keli McGregor, NFL tight end turned Rockies president, dies

Keli McGregor, a former NFL tight end who was president of the Colorado Rockies, was found dead in his hotel room in Salt Lake City this morning. He was 48.

McGregor was drafted by the Denver Broncos in 1985 and played briefly for the Broncos and Colts before beginning a career in Major League Baseball.

A cause of death has not been determined, but police say he died of natural causes.

There are no signs of foul play,” Detective Rick Wall said. “Based on the initial investigation [police and fire officials] did not see anything suspicious.”

McGregor is survived by his wife, Lori, three daughters and a son.

McGregor was a second-team All-American tight end in 1984 at Colorado State, was voted to Colorado State’s all-century team in 1992 and was named to the school’s Hall of Fame in 1996.
