After he tore his ACL late last season, Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu said that recovering from a previous torn ACL taught him that he shouldn’t rush his return to the field from this injury.
We don’t know if Mathieu is rushing, but he definitely seems to be moving quickly. He’s running and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald says that his teammate’s progress has the team asking Mathieu to slow down rather than continue healing at a pace normally seen in comic books.
“They’re having to hold him back,” Fitzgerald said, via the Arizona Republic. “He heals like Wolverine. He’s so passionate and we love him dearly. And we’re so happy to see he’s going to be ready to go for us by training camp, and he can pick right where he left off.”
Mathieu shares Fitzgerald’s confidence about how the return will play out -- “I just tell people to relax. It’s going to be all right. I’m going to play 12-15 years and hopefully I’ll spend all that time in Arizona.” -- and called it a fluke that he’s suffered the same injury twice in his three NFL seasons. Given the difference he makes to the Cardinals defense, plenty of people in Arizona will be hoping both men are making accurate predictions.
