In another sign that the Lions are finally bringing some optimism to Detroit, their Week 5 game against the Bears on Monday Night Football sold out today just 45 minutes after individual tickets became available.

It says a lot about how awful the Lions have been over the last decade that a 6-10 season is considered progress, but the way the Lions played in 2010, especially late in the season, has plenty of Detroit fans feeling like 2011 is finally the year that Lions tickets will be worth the money.

People are voting with their pocket books and making an investment in us,” Lions president Tom Lewand said. “And that is an investment we have to honor and respect. It is up to us now to deliver a return on that investment.”

The Lions have frequently been blacked out in recent years, thanks not only to the Lions’ terrible record but also to the terrible economy in Detroit, but early indications are that they have a chance of selling out all their home games. There’s real excitement for the Lions in Detroit, the likes of which hasn’t been seen in years.
