Of all the off-field incidents involving Pacman Jones, the one that has generated the greatest scrutiny happened in 2007, when Jones “made it rain” at a Las Vegas strip club, starting off a melee that led to a shooting outside the club. Today, four and a half years later, the man convicted of pulling the trigger in that shooting has been sentenced.
The Las Vegas Sun reports that Arvin Kenti Edwards will serve four to ten years in prison for attempted murder and use of a deadly weapon.
Jones was inside the Minxx strip club when he decided to “make it rain,” or throw dollar bills from a garbage bag onto the stage. Jones became angry when the strippers started grabbing the money, a fight broke out, and after Jones was kicked out of the club, the shooting took place shortly afterward. One man was paralyzed in the shooting.
It’s never been completely clear what the connection between Jones and Edwards was, but Jones later agreed to a plea deal on a gross misdemeanor charge of conspiracy to commit disorderly conduct. Jones got a year of probation.
As a result of that incident and others, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Jones, who was then with the Titans, for the entire 2007 season. Jones returned to the NFL and signed with the Cowboys in 2008. The Cowboys cut Jones after the 2008 season, and he was out of the NFL for all of 2009, but he signed with the Bengals in 2010.
