Mark Davis says San Antonio meeting “went great”

Davis

San Antonio wants an NFL team. Or the Raiders.

Via Scott Bair of CSNBayArea.com, Raiders owner Mark Davis said that a recent meeting with San Antonio officials “went great.”

“They let us know what assets San Antonio has to offer,” Davis said.

The most important asset could be leverage. Flirting with San Antonio may enhance the team’s chances of getting a new venue in Oakland.

Few regard San Antonio as a viable candidate to bring the Raiders to town. Former Raiders president Amy Trask expressed significant doubt about the possibility on CBS Sports Network earlier today.

“I don’t believe that that’s a very viable opportunity,” Trask said, via SportsBusiness Daily. “It would be, in my mind, very, very remarkable if that’s where the team were to end up.”

It’s remarkable that the situation has gotten to the point where the Raiders have a year-to-year lease in Oakland with no local sense of urgency to devise a solution that would persuade the Raiders to stay. Ultimately, they may have to stay by default, at least for another year.
