Past and current Steelers came out today to pay their respects to Chuck Noll, the four-time Super Bowl-winning head coach who was laid to rest after a funeral service at Saint Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh.
Steelers president Art Rooney II, former Steelers Andy Russell and Mean Joe Greene, and former Steelers director of communications Joe Gordon were among the pallbearers. Others in attendance included Steelers Hall of Famers John Stallworth, Franco Harris and Mel Blount and many more recent Steelers who didn’t play for Noll but wanted to pay their respects, including Ike Taylor, Maurkice Pouncey and Ben Roethlisberger. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also attended.
“It’s a sad day for all of us,” said Hall of Fame receiver Lynn Swann, via WTAE. “When you leave this world, people take a moment to look at what you’ve done, look at your past, what you’ve built and what you stand for, and I think that will stand positively for a long time for Chuck Noll.”
Noll, who died on Friday at age 82, coached the Steelers from 1969 to 1991.
