Eagles backup quarterback Michael Vick arrived at training camp today and spoke briefly with reporters, expressing regret about the birthday party that exposed him to renewed scrutiny after one of his dogfighting co-defendants was shot.
Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News reports that Vick said he should have listened to his mother and had a private party, rather than selling tickets and advertising the event publicly.
Vick also said that when he talked to Eagles coach Andy Reid about the shooting, “it wasn’t a pleasant conversation.”
Local authorities in Virginia say they know who committed the shooting but can’t prosecute because victim Quanis Phillips isn’t cooperating. Vick said he heard about the shooting from a friend, 15 or 20 minutes after it happened.
Vick also said he knows he’s on his last chance, and that he wants to talk to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and “look him in the eye” when Goodell visits Eagles camp next week.
