NFL announces Walter Thurmond suspension

The news of Seahawks cornerback Walter Thurmond’s suspension broke on Sunday morning, but it didn’t become official until Tuesday afternoon.

That’s when the NFL announced that Thurmond will miss the next four games for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse. He will be eligible to return to the team for Week 17.

With Thurmond suspended and Brandon Browner injured (and facing a reported suspension of his own), the Seahawks are looking for help at cornerback. Antoine Winfield, Perrish Cox and Marcus Trufant have all surfaced on the radar and they have DeShawn Snead on the practice squad. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Tuesday that Cox will join the team if he passes a physical.

Schefter also reported that Browner could be headed to injured reserve, which would end his season and possibly the impending free agent’s tenure with the Seahawks as well. If that does happen, the team could make multiple moves to shore up the cornerback spot with the Saints coming to town on Monday.
