Rams hire four tryout players

Thanks to the remake of The Longest Yard, the word “tryout” forever conjures memories of the guy reading the term to be “tree-out.”

In St. Louis this weekend, a team with a skill level roughly equivalent to a group of out-of-shape prisoners invited several players to participate in a rookie minicamp on a “tree-out” basis. And four of them did well enough to land jobs.

The Rams have announced that receiver Dominique Curry (California (Pa.)), defensive back Martin Harris (Fresno State), defensive tackle Ernest Reid (University of Mary), cornerback Antoine Thompson (Nevada-Reno) have been signed to free-agent contracts.

They’ve still got a long way to go to land on the 53-man roster in September. But they’re in far better shape than the other guys who came to the tree-outs.
