Ray Lewis can become a free agent for the first time in his career if he doesn’t sign a new deal with the Ravens before February 27th. Speaking with reporters in Tampa for the Super Bowl, the linebacker offered no insight into his plans. “What I’m thinking, nobody needs to know,” said Lewis. “I’ve given my prayers to God. It’s between me and him. It’s nobody else’s business. That’s between me and God.” He briefly addressed teammate Terrell Suggs’ suggestion that he, Lewis and Bart Scott might sign discounted deals so that they could remain members of the same club. Lewis agreed there was a “brotherhood” between the three men, but said that the decision was about business and not personal. If the Ravens would like to franchise Lewis, he’s okay with it because he’s okay with “whatever God has in his plans.” The franchise tender for linebackers is set at $8.3 million, Lewis made $6.5 million in 2008.
