The Seahawks will return from the bye this week with a shortage of cornerbacks.

Walter Thurmond is going to start serving a four-game suspension and Brandon Browner is out with a groin injury, leaving the team thin at the position once you get past Richard Sherman. They may be trying to remedy that by bringing back a player who was briefly a member of the team in the offseason and summer.

Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that the team has reached out to Antoine Winfield to gauge the veteran’s interest in returning to the team. Winfield retired at the end of the summer, but he never filed retirement papers and has remained in shape while waiting to see if the right situation to return came along this year.

Seattle may offer just that. They’re one of the favorites in the NFC and coming back would offer Winfield a chance to help the team weather the storm in the secondary now while putting him in good position for a run at the Super Bowl trip that has eluded him throughout his career.
