Robert Griffin III had the best-selling jersey in May
On Tuesday, MDS passed along the news that the NFL sold more Peyton Manning jerseys than those of any other player in April and May.
Robert Griffin III placed third on the list, which is pretty impressive when you take into account the fact that the jerseys didn’t go on sale until April 26th. Once Griffin’s jersey became available, though, no one sold more.
Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post points out that the Redskins rookie quarterback is on top of the list for jersey sales in May. Andrew Luck, who went one pick before Griffin in April, ranks fourth on both the April/May and May lists.
That disparity could be because people are really clamoring for their first chance to own a jersey with Roman numerals on the back. More likely, it is a sign of how excited Redskins fans are by the addition of a quarterback who could stop the revolving door the team has had at the position for the last several years.
Of course, they’ve been excited by that prospect in the past. Donovan McNabb’s Redskins jersey was a hot seller when he first came to Washington. The Redskins and their fans hope that’s the last similarity between the two quarterbacks’ tenures in D.C.
