The Steelers are considering adding a museum at Heinz Field as part of a reconstruction that would finish 2012 or 2013, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
It’s an idea that is probably overdue for a team with a history as rich as the Steelers. The team doesn’t have a ring of honor and it has only retired one number. The idea would be to have a museum fans could go to 12 months a year; they currently have a “Great Hall” at Heinz Field that fans can go to on gamedays.
The reconstruction and expansion of Heinz Field is expected to add 4,000 to 5,000 seats. The estimated cost of the reconstruction is expected to cost around $30 million. It’s not certain that a museum will be part of the expansion, but it seems like a no brainer and a possible money maker to us.
