The Steelers are signing four players who participated as tryouts in their rookie minicamp last weekend, including veteran defensive back Donald Washington.
Washington, 29, was a fourth-round pick of the Chiefs in 2009 and played three seasons in Kansas City as a safety. He played three seasons in the CFL as a cornerback, and Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review wrote that the Steelers tried out Washington as a cornerback and plan to use him there.
The Steelers also signed running backs Brandon Brown-Dukes and Cameron Stingily and wide receiver Markus Tucker. Stingily signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent last May, then got injured in training camp and eventually was released with an injury settlement.
Brown-Dukes is an undrafted rookie out of Mercyhurst (Pa.), and Tucker is an undrafted rookie out of Northern Michigan.
The Steelers released running backs Christian Powell and Rajon Neal, wide receiver Tobias Palmer and cornerback Isaiah Frey.
