The Houston Texans haven’t simply cut their roster to 53. Instead, they’ve gone all the way to 52, giving them an open spot to play with.
Gone as the Texans cut to 52 are, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, running back Chris Ogbonnaya, fifth-round rookie safety Shiloh Keo, punter Brad Maynard, seventh-round pick (and Mr. Irrelevant) linebacker Cheta Ozougwu, receiver Terrence Toliver, linebacker Xavier Adibi, defensive lineman Damione Lewis, receiver Dorin Dickerson, tight end Anthony Hill, receiver Trindon Holliday, safety Quentin Demps, safety Torri Williams, linebacker Stanford Keglar, running back Javarris Williams, fullback Zac Pauga, receiver Jeff Maehl, receiver Derrick Townsel, offensive tackle Cole Pemberton, center Cody Wallace, center Howard Barbieri, offensive tackle Peter Hendrickson, defensive end Scooter Berry, defensive end John Graves, guard Andrew Gardner, linebacker Mister Alexander, nose tackle Guy Miller, outside linebacker Steven Friday, long snapper Scott Albritton, and linebacker Matt Marcorelle.
The decision to dump Maynard leaves the Texans with no punter, for now. Also, the release of Ogbonnaya means that running back Steve Slaton has made the team. For now.
