As we mentioned yesterday, the arrival of Pope Francis in Philadelphia did change the NFL schedule, but a religious request by the Jets owner did not meet the same success.
According to John DeMarzo of the New York Post, the Jets owner asked the league to open the season on the road, since Rosh Hashanah is on Sept. 13.
Technically, the Jewish New Year begins at sundown, so the league gave the Jets a 1 p.m. kickoff against the Browns, which should allow observers/Jets fans to be home by 7:09 p.m., the time of sunset that day.
