Suffice it to say, Jets coach Todd Bowles does not agree with safety Calvin Pryor’s scouting report on Dez Bryant.
In fact, they may not even be watching the same sport.
While Pryor said the Cowboys wide receiver was noticeably slower since his foot surgery, Bowles invoked one of the NBA’s all-time greats for a comparison.
“Dez Bryant being slow is like LeBron [James] being slow,” Bowles said. “You’re going to get something from him. You’re going to get something out of him. He’s a great player. You never slow down, you just find different ways to beat people. We expect the best Dez Bryant we’re going to see.”
Bryant’s obviously off his normal pace, between the foot injury and the lack of a quarterback, but he’s still good enough to create matchup problems for any team (including one with a star cornerback in Darrelle Revis who is still good but not his old self either).
“He’s so athletic and he does enough that at 90 percent, he’s better than 90 percent of the receivers, at 80 percent, he’s better than 90 percent of the receivers,” Bowles said. “We expect him to be at 100 percent, and we expect to play the best Dez Bryant we know we’re going to see.”
Of course, that’s still going to be limited by the Matt Cassel they know they’re going to see, but they clearly respect the challenges Bryant can create.
