Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has made his customary appearance on the team’s injury report this week with an ankle injury that has about as much chance of keeping him out of the game as an attack by a Tyrannosaurus rex.
Brady has also been sporting a bloodshot right eye this week that hasn’t been mentioned on the injury report. On Thursday, Brady explained that his new look is the result of an eye poke from Ravens defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan during a second quarter tussle between the two players after a sack.
“No, it was when I was arguing with that guy and then he poked me in the eye, and I was trying to yell at the ref. I said, ‘He just poked me in the eye!’ He obviously didn’t see it,” Brady said, via ESPN.com.
Brady wasn’t affected by the eye poke on the field and didn’t seem any more upset about it than he was about Ray Lewis’s comments about Brady owing his legacy to the tuck rule.
“It’s a good move, the eye gouge. You can’t even do that in professional wrestling,” Brady said.
Should Brady want to come up with counters to future eye pokes, we’d recommend an offseason diet of Three Stooges films. Just watch out for the nose honk.
