Steelers second-year cornerback Senquez Golson has a Lisfranc injury in his foot, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin confirmed Wednesday.
The Steelers have not yet made a roster move involving Golson. Tomlin said Golson is likely to have surgery, and the team will make a roster move once it has a better idea of how long Golson figures to be out. Golson was injured in practice earlier this week.
Even if he’s able to get healthy in 3-4 months and is placed on injured-reserve/designated for return, he’s had so few reps over the last two seasons the Steelers might be hesitant to put him on the field.
A second-round pick in 2015, Golson was shut down before training camp last summer and eventually had shoulder surgery that kept him out for his entire rookie season.
The Steelers added first-year cornerback Kevin White to their camp roster Wednesday and figure to keep an eye on the waiver wire over the coming weeks for cornerback prospects. First-round rookie Artie Burns and second-year cornerback Doran Grant, who spent half of last season on the practice squad, should expect extra work over the next few weeks and in the preseason games as the team evaluates their progress. The Steelers also signed veteran Donald Washington in the spring to boost depth and experience in the secondary.
