Tommie Harris: “I’m a premier player, and I didn’t play like one”

Chicago Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris knows he didn’t play the way Bears fans hoped he would in 2009, and he says he didn’t play up to his own standards, either.

''I feel I owe this game because I’m a premier player, and I didn’t play like one last year,’' Harris told Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times. ''So I’m doing everything in my power to make up for everything that happened last year.’'

After the Bears spent big at the outset of free agency, Harris hinted that he expects big changes in Chicago if the Bears don’t make the playoffs in 2010.

''We haven’t been to the playoffs in three years,” he said. “I’m not a dummy. I know what that means, if you don’t get the job done. This league changes pretty quick.’'

Harris added that he feels confident the Bears are a playoff team.

''On paper, I see us already in the playoffs,’' he said. ''We just have to get there.’'
