Bears special teams coach interviewed for the team’s head coaching vacancy, but he isn’t on the short list for it, and won’t be hanging around to work with the next guy.
According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, Toub is “definitely,” leaving the Bears, and is expected to take a lateral move to the Chiefs though no announcement has been made on that front.
Toub also interviewed with the Panthers for a special teams job, but is thought to be leaning toward joining Andy Reid instead. Reid gave Toub his first NFL job in Philadelphia, and the two worked together in the college ranks as well.
While Toub is recognized as one of the top special teams coaches in the business, keeping him to work for the guy who beat him out for the head coaching job would have been awkward, and frankly a distraction the new coach doesn’t need.
