Victor Cruz does individual drills at Giants minicamp

Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz spent OTAs working on a side field while the rest of the team went through practice sessions, but said recently that he thought there was a chance he’d get the go-ahead to do some work with his teammates at this week’s minicamp.

That’s exactly how things played out during Tuesday’s practice. According to multiple reports from the Giants’ facility, Cruz went through the early portion of drills with the rest of the team’s wideouts for the first time this offseason.

Cruz has not played since tearing a patella tendon during the 2014 season. He injured his calf while working to return to the field last summer and was eventually shut down for the entire year by the Giants.

Cruz returned to the side field when the Giants started to do team drills as there’s no reason to push him at this point in the schedule even without the memory of last year’s injury, but the step up in activity now bodes well for Cruz’s ability to get fully into the swing of things when the Giants open up training camp.
