Victor Cruz hasn’t played any football since tearing a patellar tendon on a Sunday night in October 2014. Despite a promising start to training camp, Cruz yet again is delayed, this time with a groin injury. But Cruz says it’s not a big deal.
“It feels good. I tweaked it [Tuesday], just a little bit,” Cruz told WEPN-FM on Wednesday, via NJ.com. “I didn’t want to go through practice and have the risk of injuring it even more. But I woke up today, felt good, and I’ve been getting treatment on it all day. I’m not worried about it. It’s not a big deal. It’s something that happens. But I anticipate being back out there in a few days, and getting after it again.”
Others aren’t as optimistic. Bob Glauber of Newsday cites last year’s calf injury, which started as not a big deal and ended with season-ending surgery.
“Victor was coming along quite well,” offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan said Wednesday, via Glauber. “He was getting a sense of the timing and rhythm moving around in multiple positions. We saw him getting more and more comfortable, getting that chemistry back with Eli. It’s disappointing for him and us, but we’re just going to have to continue to do all we can and he’s going to have to do all he can to get himself back into the fray.”
It’s been a long time since Cruz was truly back into the fray. Surely, the Giants wonder whether he ever will be.
