Victor Cruz has started cutting in rehab from torn patellar tendon

Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz said recently that he has “no doubt” that he’ll be ready to play in the team’s season opener and that he’ll be the same player he was before tearing his patellar tendon during a game against the Eagles last season.

Before he can make good on those predictions, Cruz is going to have to check off all of the boxes in his rehab and he’s knocked another one off the list. Cruz gave the latest update on his progress on Tuesday night.

“We got [to cutting],” Cruz said, via NJ.com. “We started running some intermediate routes on air and stuff like that. It’s feeling good. It’s feeling good so far. I think I’m 75-80 percent right now. It’s just a matter of building it.”

Cruz’s 75-80 percent assessment is a bit lower than General Manager Jerry Reese’s recent take on the wideout’s condition, but we’re more inclined to go with the player’s take on his own condition. Not that either guy’s number matters much with Cruz needing to pass several more milestones before anyone can start thinking seriously about a date for Cruz to get back on the field.
