Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz said he was “absolutely” ready to play earlier this week and that his knee feels 100 percent after the long recovery from a torn patellar tendon, but his return to the field isn’t likely to come on Saturday.

The knee isn’t the reason why he expects to sit out against the Jaguars. Cruz hurt his calf during Monday’s practice and hasn’t worked the last two days with what he calls a “minor” injury.

“It wasn’t going to be easy the rest of the way,” Cruz said, via the New York Daily News. “I knew there would be something that would come up, whether it would be out here on the field or with my body. I’m excited that it’s not something that’s major. It’s something that I can get over. It’s something that’s [not] going to be a huge hindrance.”

Cruz will have another week to get ready for the team’s third preseason game against the Jets, where he could make his return against the team who he shredded in the preseason many years ago to help start his rise from undrafted player to Giants star.
