Victor Cruz runs on grass, is pain-free, not expected this week

The Giants cut wide receiver Preston Parker Tuesday, and Victor Cruz ran.

Those two facts aren’t necessarily connected, at least in terms of this week’s game.

According to Kevin Armstrong of the New York Daily News, Cruz ran on the practice field grass for the first time since injuring his calf in training camp, and said afterward he was pain free. He said the swelling was down and he was getting close.

But not close enough for this week, since they play Washington Thursday night.

“The short week leaves us a little handicapped,” Cruz said. “I’ve been patient for 11 months now. It’s been hard, man, but you know you’ve got to stay the course.”

The calf injury came after he rehabbed last year’s knee injury, and the Giants are off to an 0-2 start without him.
