The signs started pointing toward an agreement between the Broncos and linebacker Von Miller on a long-term deal before Friday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline in recent days and that deal is now done.
Miller tweeted out a picture of himself in a Broncos uniform with the caption “FOR LIFE” on Friday afternoon just as multiple reports indicated that the two sides had struck a deal. PFT has confirmed that the deal is done.
The deal comes in at six years with a total value of $114.5 million and $70 million in guaranteed money, which is where reports put the deal on Thursday. Mike Klis of KUSA in Denver reports that Miller will get $23 million upon signing with a $2 million salary for the 2016 season and that he has $42 million guaranteed in the first two years of the deal. Miller will have $19 million more fully guaranteed in March 2017 and the final $9 million becomes guaranteed in March 2018, with both of those totals guaranteed against injury before that point.
It took a while for Miller to get there, but it is the most guaranteed money and highest average annual salary for any non-quarterback in the league. It also ensures that the Broncos will have their top defensive player on the field for the start of training camp as they try to defend their Super Bowl title in 2016.
