Wes Welker’s two-year contract with the Broncos expires on March 10. Amid chatter of retirement, Welker says that’s not the case.
“Just getting ready for 2015,” Welker told Mike Klis of the Denver Post via text message.
But what about the report he’s contemplating retirement?
“Never ever came out of my mouth,” Welker said.
Welker may become involuntarily retired, if the offers he gets on the open market fall significantly short of his expectations. Or if his history of head injuries will in any way impair his ability to pass a physical.
A wild-card team that could be interested in Welker’s services is the Patriots. Two years after a messy divorce that saw the Pats replace Welker with Danny Amendola, the Patriots could decide to punt on the third year of the contract.
