You may have heard that Wes Welker had a very good Kentucky Derby day.
Well, Welker could be having an even better Belmont Stakes Saturday.
Undrafted, a horse owned by the Broncos’ receiver, captured the $300,000 Jaipur International Stakes this afternoon at Belmont Park.
A four-year-old gelding, Undrafted rallied from mid-pack and stormed home to win by 1.5 lengths in a swift 1:07 and two-fifth seconds. A winning $2 bet on Undrafted paid $11.60.
The winner’s share of the purse was $165,000, improving Undrafted’s career earnings to $362,040.
According to the Boston Globe, Welker is not slated to be at Belmont on Saturday. Wherever Welker is, he figures to relish this win, the first stakes triumph for Undrafted.
The Belmont Stakes, the jewel of Belmont’s Saturday card, will start at 6:52 p.m. Eastern and will be shown live on NBC.
