Winston, Mariota make Bucs-Titans a marquee Week One game

The Buccaneers and Titans were the two worst teams in the NFL last season, which ought to make their Week One game the kind of mess that only people living in Tampa and Tennessee and lacking DirecTV would watch.

But now Bucs-Titans looks like a marquee Week One game.

With Jameis Winston going first overall to the Bucs and Marcus Mariota going second overall to the Titans, that Week One game is going to be a big one. Assuming Winston and Mariota can beat out Mike Glennon and Zach Mettenberger and win their respective starting jobs, there’s going to be a lot of fan interest in seeing the first two picks in the draft square off.

One of these rookie quarterbacks joining a 2-14 team will start his career 1-0. The NFL surely gave that some thought when it matched up the Bucs and Titans in Week One.
