Chargers promoted QBs coach Shane Day to pass game coordinator.
Day, 51, will retain his prior role as well. The Chargers did the same with DBs coach Steve Clinkscale, adding defensive passing game coordinator to his title, and DL coach Mike Elston, adding defensive run game coordinator to his title. Former offensive assistant Josh Hammond has been promoted to assistant WRs coach and assistant ST coach and Mike Hiestand has been named defensive run game specialist. The team also added Jarrod James, Jimmy Thompson and Beau Snuggs as Alex G. Spanos Coaching Fellows.

Jordan Schultz reports the Giants will interview Chargers QBs coach Shane Day for their offensive coordinator vacancy.
Schultz claims Day was a “serious candidate” for an L.A. promotion before head coach Jim Harbaugh eventually settled on big-named organizational outsider Mike McDaniel. Coaching in the NFL or FBS since 2006, Day has spent most of his time in the big leagues, including time on Kyle Shanahan’s staff. He has never been a play-caller or offensive coordinator, while this would make for an unusual jump from one brother’s staff to another. John might be wondering why he wasn’t good enough for Jim’s job, but we digress.

Chargers completed an interview with QB coach Shane Day for their offensive coordinator vacancy.
Day has been on the Chargers’ coaching staff in four of the last five seasons, separated by a one-off campaign with the Texans, serving as a senior offensive assistant in 2023. From 2021-2022, he was the Chargers’ pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He currently serves only as the quarterbacks coach at this time.
