Ravens placed QB Skylar Thompson on injured reserve.

Thompson signed with the Ravens in the offseason but dealt with an undisclosed injury in training camp. He heads to injured reserve, likely ending his season; he and the team may reach an injury settlement in the coming days. The Ravens signed former UFL quarterback Austin Reed in his place. Reed figures to get some game time during preseason as the team’s fourth-string quarterback.

Dolphins declared QB Tyler Huntley, LB Anthony Walker, CB Ethan Bonner, CB Kendall Fuller, TE Jack Stoll and WR Dee Eskridge inactive for Week 13 against the Packers.

Huntley was activated off injured reserve Thursday, but he’ll be the emergency quarterback for Thursday’s bout against Green Bay. Skylar Thompson will be the backup for Tua Tagovailoa versus the Packers instead.

Dolphins QB Skylar Thompson (ribs) said his injury is fully healed.

Whether or not this means Thompson will return as the Dolphins’ QB2 is to be determined, but the third-year signal-caller has thrown for 187 scoreless yards on 33 pass attempts this season while taking eight sacks. With Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) likely to return in Week 8, it seems unlikely that we will see Thompson on the field any time soon.

Dolphins QB Skylar Thompson (ribs) was limited in Friday’s practice.

That’s two limited sessions for Thompson, who left in the third quarter of the Dolphins’ Week 3 loss to Seattle. We will get a cleared picture of his health when the Dolphins release their final injury report on Friday. Even if Thompson gets cleared in time for Miami’s MNF matchup with the Titans, we fully expect Tyler Huntley or Tim Boyle to be named the starter.

Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel said Skylar Thompson (ribs) is expected to practice in a limited capacity on Thursday.

McDaniel said earlier in the week that he doesn’t think Thompson will be available to play “anytime soon” after going down in Week 3 against the Seahawks. A limited practice is a good sign for Thompson, but McDaniel also said on Thursday that he has no idea who will start at quarterback between Thompson, Tim Boyle, and Tyler Huntley. McDaniel doesn’t have to make a decision until Monday night, meaning this decision could linger for a bit longer.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says there’s a “very real possibility” Tyler Huntley starts in Week 4 for the Dolphins against the Titans.

This would probably be the best-case scenario for the Dolphins and their pass catchers. Huntley has proven to be a serviceable backup since entering the league as a UDFA in 2020 and has thrown for 1,957-8-7 in 20 career games while adding another 509 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Skylar Thompson, who started in Week 3 against the Seahawks, doesn’t sound like he’ll be returning from his chest injury this week after head coach Mike McDaniel said it would be “difficult to envision” Thompson playing “anytime soon” earlier in the week. Tim Boyle would be the other option for the Dolphins, but after throwing for 79 yards on 7-of-13 passing in relief of Thompson, the Dolphins have little reason to see more of him this week.

The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson writes it’s “difficult to envision” Dolphins QB Skylar Thompson (chest) “being able to play anytime soon.”

Jackson also wrote that Thompson “could not dress himself” after Sunday’s game. He speculates that Tim Boyle and Tyler Huntley could be competing to start in Week 4 against the Titans. Super FLEX leagues always sound good until you’re wondering if you should pick up Tim Boyle. Huntley, who is still learning the offense, would seem on paper to be a much better play if he can nab the job.

Tim Boyle completed 7-of-13 attempts for 79 yards in the Dolphins’ Week 3 loss against the Seahawks.

Boyle entered the game when Skylar Thompson exited in the third quarter with a chest injury. Boyle was far more successful than Thompson in moving the ball and connecting with Miami pass catchers. Boyle in 2023 was able to feed Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall as the Jets’ starter, and could do the same for Tyreek Hill, De’Vone Achane, and the rest of the Dolphins’ pass catchers if he gets the Week 4 start against Tennessee.

Skylar Thompson (chest) was ruled out in Week 3 against the Seahawks.

Thompson took a handful of wicked shots to the midsection in his first start of 2024 and did not return after a hard fall to the turf in the third quarter. Tim Boyle, fresh off the practice squad, has taken over at quarterback.

Skylar Thompson exited the Dolphins’ Week 3 game against the Seahawks with an apparent upper body injury.

Thompson, with almost no pocket awareness, took a handful of mammoth shots from Seattle defenders before being unable to get off the turf after a hard push to the ground in the third quarter. Thompson is reportedly getting X-rays in the locker room. He had 107 scoreless yards before the injury. Tim Boyle, who was recently activated off the practice squad, will take over at QB for Thompson.

Chiefs have 'clear path' to underwhelming season
Though they expect Patrick Mahomes to bounce back, Paul Pabst and Andrew Perloff have little faith in the Chiefs' pieces surrounding their star QB to effectively rebound from a disastrous 2025 season.
