  • NO Defensive Back
    Terrence Holt Sunday November 13.
  • FA Defensive Back
Aaron Francisco has moved behind Terrence Holt at free safety for the Cardinals, as expected.
They aren’t paying Holt $5 million-a-year to ride the bench. Francisco will resume his duties in special teams, where he is a highly effective force.
  • FA Defensive Back #26
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt confirmed Friday that Antrel Rolle will be moving to free safety in 2008.
It’s an overdue move, although corner is such a valuable position that it’s hard to knock Arizona for staying with Rolle there during his first three seasons. This makes it a near lock that Terrence Holt will be cut. At 6'0/208 with good tackling and ball skills, Rolle should be a big factor in IDP leagues.
  • NO Defensive Back
Cardinals released FS Terrence Holt, DL Chris Cooper, and OT Oliver Ross.
The Holt signing last year was bound to flop. Holt was a strong safety trying to play free safety. The Cards needed someone to patrol center field, letting Adrian Wilson stay in the box. Converted CB Antrel Rolle will get that chance in ’08. Cooper was a deep reserve. Ross’ career might be over.
  • NO Defensive Back
Kent Somers of The Arizona Republic speculates that FS Terrence Holt could be released in the next month or so.
Holt disappointed in his first season with the Cards, and Arizona will avoid paying him a $1.5 million roster bonus if they cut him before March 1st. The Cards are considering moving Antrel Rolle to free safety, where he would compete with Aaron Francisco for the starting job if Holt is released.
  • KC Defensive Back
Panthers released DBs Ricardo Colclough, Terrence Holt, Joe Fields, and Darren Toney, DTs Nick Hayden and Stephen Williams, DE Stanley McGlover, and LB Tim Shaw.
Colclough’s timing was poor with this morning’s DWI. The Holt family reunion won’t happen in Carolina even if Torry does come home to play after his current Rams contract is up.
  • NO Defensive Back
Panthers signed S Terrence Holt, formerly of the Cardinals.
Holt is only 28 and can lay some wood, but has flopped every time he’s been given a chance to start at free safety. The Panthers should add another prospect in the draft. For now, Holt is behind only Nate Salley at the position.
  • Defensive Back
Rookie Charles Godfrey was immediately inserted as the first-string free safety during the Panthers’ opening minicamp Friday.
They’re wasting no time getting Godfrey converted from cornerback. He’s the heavy favorite to start in centerfield over Terrence Holt and Nate Salley.
  • Defensive Back
The Panthers will use third-round pick Charles Godfrey at free safety.
Godfrey is well built with good speed and tackling ability, so this won’t be a difficult conversion. Mostly a cornerback at Iowa, he did play some safety too. Godfrey is nearly a lock to start over Terrence Holt and Nate Salley.
