Corey Chavous (pecs) is expected to be a game-time decision, but appears unlikely to play in reality. O.J. Atogwe will stay at home at free safety.

Jerome Carter and Todd Johnson will likely split safety duties Sunday.

The reserve safety had made three tackles on the day before getting hurt. Johnson, who might be in line to start if Corey Chavous sits out Week 6 with a strained pectorals muscle, is uncertain to face Baltimore.

Chavous, who is dealing with a strained pecs muscle, may miss another two-to-three weeks. With Jerome Carter (broken foot) and Todd Johnson (neck sprain) sidelined, Ron Bartell could start at safety against Baltimore.

It’s not exactly great news for St. Louis. Todd Johnson wasn’t an obvious liability while Chavous was out. Chavous isn’t a formidable IDP option.

The Bills are one of the only teams willing to sign ex-Rams. FS Donte Whitner (thumb) and SS Bryan Scott (ankle) have been out for two weeks. If Johnson suits up on game day, he’ll play special teams and back up at safety.

Johnson was just a special teamer. Rams also waived LB K.C. Asiodu, DT Antwon Burton, TE Eric Butler, DE Ian Campbell, LB Dominic Douglas, OT Renardo Foster, FB Jerome Johnson, C Tim Mattran, CB Cord Parks, S Mark Rubin, G Roy Schuening, OT Phil Trautwein and WR Sean Walker.

Byrd was limited in practice all week. He leads the league with eight interceptions and has recorded a pick in five straight games. The team signed Cary Harris off their practice squad on Friday, and special teamer Todd Johnson would likely draw the start if Byrd can’t go.
