Texans rookie RB Wali Lundy carried nine times for 59 yards on Saturday.
Lundy, who also ran for a score, was Houston’s top rushing threat in the game. The sixth-rounder added a nine-yard catch to his solid night.
  • HOU Running Back
Rookie RB Wali Lundy is a candidate to help on return duties for Houston with Jerome Mathis out.
RB Jake Schifino, CB Philip Buchanon and running back Damien Rhodes all have taken repititions the last few days since Mathis re-injured his foot. Mathis is expected to be out until October.
  • HOU Running Back
As a starter Saturday, Texans rookie back Wali Lundy rushed for 40 yards on seven carries and caught three passes for 26 yards.
Vernand Morency stole the show with a two-touchdown performance, but Lundy was impressive again. Both can have fantasy value this season if Domanick Davis continues to struggle with his knee injury.
  • HOU Running Back
RB Wali Lundy will start in Houston’s backfield Saturday night against the Rams after piling up a team-high 59 yards in the preseason opener.
Vernand Morency will see his first action of the preseason, as well. With Domanick Davis still without a timetable, coach Gary Kubiak plans on using a committee until somebody emerges. “I envision us playing more than one guy,” Kubiak said. “We’ll play two for sure.”
  • HOU Running Back
Texans coach Gary Kubiak confirmed the Texans expect to use a Running Back by Committee in Week 1.
Speaking of this weekend’s preseason game, Kubiak said, “Wali (Lundy) and (RB Vernand) Morency will play the game rotating as if we were playing opening day.” This confirms that both running backs are quality fantasy sleepers, although they will be difficult to use because they may cancel each other out.
  • HOU Running Back
Texans rookie RB Wali Lundy started Sunday’s exhibition game.
Lundy is expected to rotate with Vernand Morency in Week 1 while Domanick Davis (knee) sits. The rookie carried ten times for 44 yards and made three grabs for 17 more. Lundy fumbled on a helmet-to-ball hit in the first half.
  • HOU Running Back
Wali Lundy’s starting job in Houston is more precarious following Ron Dayne’s signing.
Houston is building for the future and will give Lundy every chance to keep his starting job. Vernand Morency may lose more carries than Lundy initially. Still, Lundy will have more pressure to start the season quickly because the team won’t hesitate to rotate Dayne in.
  • HOU Running Back
RB Wali Lundy carried 11 times for 32 yards in Week 1 against the Eagles.
Lundy started and saw the bulk of the action, but RB Vernand Morency took several series all to himself. He caught two passes for negative-one yard and basically broke off one good run all day.
  • FA Running Back #36
Chris Taylor has been seeing some work at fullback during OTAs.
It’s probably not a full-time consideration, but a way for Taylor to increase his odds of landing a roster spot. He’s currently battling Samkon Gado, undrafted rookie Darius Walker, Ron Dayne, and Wali Lundy behind Ahman Green.
  • TEN Running Back
Texans RB Samkon Gado rushed for 29 yards on eight carries in Saturday’s preseason game.
He also had one catch for ten yards. Wali Lundy was right behind him with 26 yards on eight carries. The two are competing to be the Texans’ third RB.
