The former Fresno State star probably doesn’t have a future in the NFL.

Mathis, a second-year player, was a long shot to make the team.

Mathis is a versatile back who studied at Fresno State. He and Ciatrick Fason are currently the only healthy RBs behind Chester Taylor.

Both undrafted rookies were good stories in Minnesota’s training camp. They are likely to join the team’s practice squad.

“I think it will be more of our intention to be able to split the carries with him,” Childress said. “Give him fresh legs if we can.” Whether this means using Ciatrick Fason or drafting a back in April is uncertain. Artose Pinner, Wendell Mathis, and Mewelde Moore are also on the roster.

Mathis made the team as an undrafted free agent before getting cut in early September.
